Naomi returned to Bethlehem carrying profound grief. She told the women: “Don't call me Naomi. Call me Mara,” meaning bitter. Scripture does not censor her pain. She had lost husband and sons. She interpreted her life through grief. Yet the book does not end where Naomi thought her story had ended. God's providence continued working through Ruth, Boaz and circumstances Naomi could not yet see. This does not mean every earthly grief receives a neat replacement. People are not interchangeable, and genuine loss remains loss. But Naomi's story shows that bitterness need not possess the final chapter. God can still create new goodness after devastating seasons. Not the same life. But still life. Still purpose. Still relationship. Still grace.
