Pause & Reflect
“Love is patient and is kind.” We often describe love as an emotion. Paul describes it through behaviour. Love waits. Love acts kindly. Love refuses envy. Love does not boast. Love is not arrogant. Love does not insist upon having its own way. This makes 1 Corinthians 13 much more challenging than a beautiful wedding reading. Put your own name into the passage. Am I patient? Am I kind? Do I keep records of wrongs? Do I insist upon getting my way? The passage quickly becomes a mirror. And when the reflection exposes us, the answer is not despair. It is transformation. The Spirit is producing this kind of love in us. Every relationship becomes a place where we can practise it.
Declare It Today
“The love of Christ is becoming visible in the way I treat people. I choose patience, kindness, humility and truth rather than selfishness and resentment.”
Let's Pray
Holy Spirit, teach me to love beyond emotion. Show me where selfishness, impatience or pride has distorted my relationships. Form the patient and kind love of Christ in me. Amen.
