Open Your Hand to the Poor

Day 323

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Deuteronomy 15:7–11

Read Scripture in Context →

Pause & Reflect

“You shall open your hand wide to him.” God repeatedly commands His people to notice poverty. The poor must never become merely a category we discuss. They are people bearing God's image. Generosity toward people in need may involve money. Food. Housing. Training. Employment. Advocacy. Mentoring. Practical support. Wise generosity asks not only: “How can I relieve today's need?” but sometimes: “How can I help create longer-term stability?” Compassion and wisdom belong together. But complexity must never become an excuse for hardness.

Declare It Today

“I will keep my heart open toward people in need and seek practical, wise and dignity-preserving ways to help.”

Let's Pray

Father, keep comfort from making me indifferent. Show me needs I can responsibly help meet and give me compassion joined with wisdom. Amen.
