Ask in Faith

James tells anyone lacking wisdom to ask God, who gives generously. Then he says: “But let him ask in faith, without any doubting.” The immediate context matters. James is specifically speaking about asking God for wisdom in the midst of trials. Faith-filled prayer does not mean convincing ourselves that God must give whatever outcome we have chosen. It means approaching God because we genuinely believe He is trustworthy. When you need wisdom, ask. Ask before reacting. Ask before making the major decision. Ask when two apparently good options sit before you. Ask when emotions make it difficult to see clearly. Then search Scripture, receive wise counsel and remain willing for God's wisdom to challenge your preference. Sometimes we say we want God's direction when what we really want is divine confirmation of a decision we have already made. Faith asks with open hands.
