Pause & Reflect
Jesus teaches forgiveness, but Scripture never requires us to pretend trust cannot be damaged. Forgiveness can be offered from the heart. Trust involves relationship. And relationship requires faithfulness. When trust has been broken, rebuilding may require: Truth. Repentance. Accountability. Changed behaviour. Consistency. Time. Someone demanding immediate trust because you have forgiven them misunderstands both forgiveness and trust. Likewise, withholding forgiveness until another person earns it turns forgiveness into payment. We can hold these truths together. I can forgive you. And: Trust may need rebuilding. Wisdom knows the difference.
Declare It Today
“I choose forgiveness, but I will allow trust to be rebuilt through truth, repentance, consistency and wisdom rather than pressure or pretence.”
Let's Pray
Father, give me wisdom where trust has been broken. Keep me from bitterness, but also from confusing forgiveness with the removal of every necessary boundary. Amen.
