“She opens her mouth with wisdom. Loving instruction is on her tongue.” This is a powerful picture of a woman whose speech has been discipled by wisdom. She does speak. Proverbs 31 does not portray godly womanhood as voiceless. But when she speaks, wisdom governs her words. That is different from speaking every thought merely because we have one. Wise speech considers: Truth. Timing. Tone. Purpose. Audience. Sometimes wisdom speaks boldly. Sometimes softly. Sometimes briefly. Sometimes not at all. And notice what accompanies wisdom: loving instruction. Truth and kindness are not enemies. A woman can be clear without cruelty. Strong without contempt. Wise speech is not merely knowing what to say. It is knowing how and when to say it.
Declare It Today
“My voice can be used for God’s glory. I will cultivate speech marked by wisdom, truth and kindness rather than impulsiveness or unnecessary harshness.”
Let's Pray
Lord, put wisdom in my mouth and kindness on my tongue. Teach me when to speak, how to speak and when silence would better honour You. Amen.
