What Is Faith?

Hebrews describes faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Biblical faith is not wishful thinking. It is not pretending uncertainty does not exist. It is not forcing yourself to feel positive. Faith rests upon the character and promises of God. That means the strength of your faith is not measured simply by how certain you feel emotionally. There are days when trust may be accompanied by trembling. Faith can say: “I do not see the whole picture, but I know who God is.” Hebrews 11 is filled with people who acted because they trusted God before seeing the outcome. Faith therefore has movement in it. It listens. Believes. Obeys. Waits. Endures. The question is not merely whether you believe God exists. It is whether you are learning to entrust your life to Him.
