Pause & Reflect

Before Eve is introduced as wife or mother, she is introduced as a human being created in the image of God. That order matters. A woman's dignity does not begin with marriage, motherhood, beauty, usefulness or approval. It begins with God. Male and female are both created in His image and both receive responsibility within creation. That gives women intrinsic dignity. Your value is not a reward for performing femininity correctly. It is not granted by a relationship. It is not increased by success or decreased by a season of obscurity. You are a woman made by God and accountable to Him. That truth should produce both security and responsibility. Security, because your worth is not negotiable. Responsibility, because an image-bearer is called to reflect something of the God whose image she bears.
