Honour Without Losing Wisdom

Day 262

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

Ephesians 6:1–3

Read Scripture in Context →

Pause & Reflect

Scripture commands honour toward parents. But honour changes form as children become adults. A young child is instructed to obey parental authority. An adult woman has responsibility before God for her own decisions. Honour may involve respect. Gratitude. Care. Listening. Speaking without contempt. But honour does not mean surrendering every adult decision to parental preference. Nor does it require participating in wrongdoing or remaining unprotected in harmful circumstances. Jesus Himself placed allegiance to God above every human relationship. Maturity learns to combine honour with appropriate independence. You can disagree respectfully. You can establish boundaries without contempt. You can honour what was good without pretending everything was good.

Declare It Today

“I will honour my parents in ways consistent with truth and obedience to God. I can show respect while accepting responsibility for the adult life God has entrusted to me.”

Let's Pray

Father, give me wisdom in my relationship with my parents. Heal what needs healing, cultivate gratitude where appropriate and teach me to combine honour with healthy maturity. Amen.
