Pause & Reflect
Paul warns parents not to provoke their children to anger, but to nurture them in the Lord's instruction. Biblical parenting requires both truth and grace. Truth without grace can become harshness. Grace without truth can become permissiveness. Children need boundaries. They also need affection. Correction. And encouragement. Consequences. And restoration. Instruction. And listening. Discipline should aim at formation rather than humiliation. A child should not have to wonder whether a parent's love disappears whenever she fails. That reflects something important about the gospel. God corrects His children, yet His discipline operates within relationship. Parenting cannot perfectly reproduce God's fatherhood. But it can increasingly reflect His character.
Declare It Today
“I will seek to nurture rather than merely control. I choose correction without humiliation, boundaries without rejection and grace without abandoning truth.”
Let's Pray
Father, give me wisdom when correction is necessary. Protect me from parenting out of anger, embarrassment or fear. Teach me to discipline with consistency, dignity and love. Amen.
