The Bread of Life

Day 46

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

John 6:35

Read Scripture in Context →

Pause & Reflect

After Jesus fed the multitude, people came looking for Him again. Jesus redirected their attention from the bread He had provided to the One who provided it. “I am the bread of life.” We can do something similar with God. Seek Him for provision. Seek Him for a relationship. Seek Him for a job. Seek Him for healing. Seek Him for success. Seek Him for an answer. These desires may be legitimate. But Jesus refuses to become merely the means by which we obtain the life we really want. He is life. The gifts of God can never replace God Himself. Even answered prayers eventually give way to new needs. Material provision satisfies temporarily. Human relationships, however precious, cannot carry the weight of being our ultimate source. Christ offers something deeper. Himself.

Declare It Today

“Jesus is the Bread of Life. I am grateful for His gifts, but I will not value the gifts above the Giver. My deepest satisfaction is found in knowing Christ.”

Let's Pray

Jesus, reveal the places where I have sought Your hand more than Your heart. Thank You for caring about my needs, but teach me to desire You above what You can give me. Feed my soul and become increasingly precious to me. Amen. Movement 2 progress We now have Days 32–46 complete. The first half has established: The eternal Christ → incarnation → Lamb of God → Messiah → beloved Son → Spirit-anointed mission → discipleship → compassion → rest → authority → personal care → Bread of Life. The remaining Days 47–59 should now take us through Jesus as Light, Shepherd, Resurrection and Life, Way/Truth/Life, abiding in Christ, servant King, the cross, resurrection, grace and our new standing in Him. That will complete the full Jesus: Our Saviour & Lord movement and bring the master collection to 59 of 365 devotionals drafted. Movement 2 — Jesus: Our Saviour & Lord Master Devotionals: Days 47–59 We continue from The Bread of Life into Jesus as Light, Shepherd, Resurrection and Life, the Way, sacrificial Servant, crucified Saviour, risen Lord and the One in whom we receive grace and freedom.
